Overview
The Jewish community in BA is the third biggest in the world, and has left its mark in the city. Along this interesting private tour you will visit the places that have been historically associated with the community, that are nowadays part of the city’s cultural heritage.
Some of the tour’s highlights
Jewish quarter - IFT theater - Gran Templo Paso - AMIA building - Israel Embassy Square - Libertad synagogue & Jewish museum
Tour description
We begin this tour in Once, one of the neighborhoods where the community first settled upon arrival. Nowadays it is still the Jewish district par excellence. There, we will see their shops, synagogues, schools, theaters and Jewish Community Centers. We will make the first stop to get into Great Temple Paso, a beautiful synagogue created by Ashkenazi Jews. We will see the AMIA´ s new building, which stands for Israelite Mutual Association of Argentina. Its original building was destroyed in 1994, in a terrorist attack where 85 people died. This is one of the most traditional institutions in Argentina. It is in charge of encouraging Jewish culture in the country, preserving its traditions and promoting the community´ s development. We continue our tour in the Israel Embassy Square, which suffered in 1992 a brutal terrorist attack. The square was built in the place where the embassy once stood. Then we will head towards the center of Buenos Aires. We will stop first at Lavalle square, where it is placed the Palace of Justice. There we will see the monument to the victims of the AMIA, a traditional venue of the organization Memoria Activa, which every Monday meets to demand the clarification of the attack. Lavalle Square is also home to the most traditional Ashkenazi synagogue, the Libertad Temple. We will visit this amazing Byzantine style temple, which was Buenos Aires’ first synagogue. Next to it stands the Jewish Museum, where we will find objects related to the Jewish presence in Buenos Aires, like pieces of religious art, menorahs and various objects belonging both to the Sephardic and Ashkenazi cultures. To finish this interesting trip along the icons of Jewish culture in Buenos Aires, we will head towards the political center of Buenos Aires. Once in May square we will enter the Metropolitan Cathedral. There we will see the homage that the Catholic church made to the Jewish community. It consists of two glass plates between which there are praying book pages rescued from the ruins of Treblinka and Auschwitz concentration camps and the Warsaw ghetto. There is also a Kadish score and two book covers: one is a book of tales in Yiddish found under the rubbles of the AMIA´s building and the other one is the Book of Samuel found while looking for survivors, after the Israeli diplomatic building exploded.

This experience was fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Buenos Aires—whether you're Jewish or not. We visited two synagogues, one Reform and one Orthodox, as well as the Jewish Museum attached to the historic Libertad Synagogue. We also explored the vibrant Once neighborhood, known for its strong Jewish roots.
Our guide, Matias, was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. He answered all our questions and provided deep insights into the rich tapestry of Jewish life in Buenos Aires. One highlight was experiencing the unique blend of Ashkenazi and Sephardic cultures that shape the local community. Matias even introduced us to a spot in Once that serves delicious Sephardic food. An unexpected treat!
This tour is educational, meaningful, and rich in cultural flavor. Whether you're exploring your own heritage or simply curious about Buenos Aires' diverse history, it’s a must-do experience. Highly recommended!

We did the Jewish Tour in Buenos Aires with BA Tour Guide and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had our 4-year-old daughter with us, and our guide, Victoria, was incredibly accommodating. Before we began walking around the city, she made sure to check if our daughter would be comfortable with the pace. Most importantly, Victoria’s passion for Jewish history and culture really shone through, making the experience both engaging and educational. As someone who isn’t Jewish, I appreciated how clearly and thoughtfully she explained the history. It gave me a much deeper understanding.

Gabriel was our tour guide, and he was excellent. He provided deep insights not only into the Jewish community in Buenos Aires but also into the broader political and economic landscape of Argentina. The tour was comprehensive, covering key Jewish sites across the city. A particular highlight was visiting three different synagogues, which we found especially interesting. Gabriel also took us to areas that are typically off the tourist trail, including the Syrian Sephardic neighborhood, an experience that added a unique and meaningful layer to the tour. We spent a very informative and engaging four hours with him. Our driver was also great skilled at navigating the traffic and keeping everything running smoothly.

We had an outstanding Jewish tour with Matias as our tour guide! He was fluent in English and demonstrated an impressive ability to tailor the tour to both my interests and those of my husband. While my husband is passionate about photography, Matias ensured he had plenty of scenic and visually interesting stops. At the same time, I was more drawn to the political history of Argentina—particularly Evita and recent elections—and Matias engaged me in meaningful conversations on those topics while my husband snapped away. One of the most moving parts of the tour was the deep dive into Jewish history, which Matias presented with thoughtfulness and respect. What truly set him apart was his flexibility and attentiveness. He was more than willing to personalize the tour to our unique interests and needs, creating a highly individualized experience. We were so impressed that we ended up booking him for two days in a row! On top of that, he even went above and beyond by renting a larger vehicle to accommodate all of our luggage and dropped us off at the airport himself. If you're considering a tour, I can't recommend Matias enough. You won't be disappointed!

I thoroughly enjoyed my private tour of the vibrant Jewish community in Buenos Aires. It included visits to the Jewish Museum and the first community synagogue. The guide was an expert in his field—an academic with outstanding knowledge of Argentine history and the role Jews have played in it. It was also heartening to see the reconstructed Jewish Federation building, which was destroyed in the Hezbollah bombing over two decades ago. This day tour was deeply meaningful and well worth the price!

Ariela took us on an outstanding tour. She was incredibly knowledgeable—not only about Jewish history in Buenos Aires, but also about Argentinean and general history. She created a perfect balance between visiting synagogues and other historical sites. If you can, go on a Friday afternoon—you’ll witness the lively bustle before Shabbat while walking through the Jewish neighborhoods, which adds a special touch to the experience.

I arranged this tour for five couples, and we traveled comfortably in a spacious minibus. Gabriel, our guide, was punctual and made the tour very interesting. Besides the Jewish sites, he provided a thorough city tour. He even secured permission for us to photograph the memorial wall dedicated to the bombing victims. The tour was a great success, and Gabriel was an excellent guide.
